The 7th annual Louisiana Melon Run will be held
on Saturday, July 27th, 2013
in Farmerville, Louisiana.
The Louisiana Melon Run is an event just for motorcyclists that is very similar to a traditional Poker Run, with the exception that the winning “hand” is the total points added together from collected cards, numbered from 1 to 250. The Melon Run was first introduced in conjunction with the Louisiana Watermelon Festival in Farmerville, Louisiana, thus the name.
The Louisiana Melon Run, Inc. is a non-profit organization, run by Adam Chellette and Heather Graham Chellette, which benefits Breast Cancer Awareness. The decision to use this particular charity came after Melon Run Founder, Heather Graham Chellette’s mother, Martie Graham, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2008. The proceeds are used to provide grants to Union Parish breast cancer victims in need of financial assistance. This is a great foundation for a wonderful cause, and by participating, you will be part of the cure.
Not only will the Melon Run give you a chance to win some cash, but it's also a good excuse to just ride your motorcycle. If you're not from the area, you will probably also have a chance to ride down a few roads you’ve never been on and enjoy some new scenery along the way. Adventure, fun and a chance to ride with old friends and make new ones are all part of the Melon Run experience, and we would like YOU to be a part of it! It doesn't matter what type of bike you have, from cruisers to vintage iron, sportbikes to Gold Wing tourers. If you haven’t participated yet, come join a fast growing event for a good cause!
The route for the Melon Run each year is a little different and is normally approximately 100 miles long. At each stop, participants will draw a numbered card that will be recorded on their scorecard. Once all numbers have been drawn, participants will return their scorecard to the registration tent. Numbers are tallied and cash 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes are then awarded, along with various doorprizes.
Check-in and on-site registration begins at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday morning, July 27th, 2013. The registration tent is located in the Courthouse Annex Parking Lot at 303 East Water Street in Farmerville, across from Big Star Grocery. The first bike out may leave after registering, and the last bike out must be no later than 10:00 A.M. Winners will be announced shortly after the last bike returns, at 1:00 P.M. The highest total of collected points wins.
