About the Louisiana Melon Run

The Louisiana Melon Run is an event just for motorcyclists that is very similar to a traditional Poker Run, with the exception that the winning “hand” is the total points added together from collected cards. The Melon Run was first introduced in conjunction with the Louisiana Watermelon Festival in Farmerville, Louisiana, thus the name. Since then, the Melon Run has evolved and taken on a life of it's own, by becoming a non-profit organization and donating the proceeds to charity. Registration fees for the Louisiana Melon Run will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help find a cure for Breast Cancer. The decision to use this particular charity came after Melon Run Treasurer, Martie Graham, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2008. This is a great foundation for a wonderful cause, and by participating, you will be part of the cure.

Not only will the Melon Run give you a chance to win some cash, but it's also a good excuse to just ride your motorcycle. If you're not from the area, you will probably also have a chance to ride down a few roads you’ve never been on and enjoy some new scenery along the way. Adventure, fun and a chance to ride with old friends and make new ones are all part of the Melon Run experience, and we would like YOU to be a part of it! It doesn't matter what type of bike you have, from cruisers to vintage iron, sportbikes to Gold Wing tourers. If you haven’t participated yet, come join a fast growing event for a good cause!

The route for the Melon Run each year is a little different and is normally around 100 miles long. At each stop, participants will draw a numbered card in a sealed envelope. Once all envelopes are collected, participants will return them to the registration tent. Envelopes are then opened and the numbered cards will be tallied. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be awarded, along with various doorprizes.

Check-in and on-site registration will begin at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 25, 2009. The registration tent will be located in the Courthouse Annex Parking Lot at 303 East Water Street in Farmerville, off of Main Street (look for signs). The first bike out may leave after registering, and the last bike out must be no later than 10:00 A.M. Winners will be announced shortly after the last bike returns, no later than 1:00 P.M. The highest total of collected points wins. Must be present to win. Decision of judges are considered final.
